I never saw 8mm. I'll have to rent it. I also heard that Kubrick did something with this subject matter a long time ago called "Lolita".
What I'm thinking I should do is rent a bunch of videos that touch on this subject (8mm, Lolita, others) and see how they present it so I get some ideas for guidelines. Would this constitute as essentially ripping off someone's work? Though I'm not taking any of the creative content, I'm consciously taking some of the technical content, I would still think it constitutes as a rip-off.
But if it isn't a rip off, can anyone suggest any other movies? Thanks.

Maybe you could think about Autism as an alternative . It's a lifelong condition , and generally Autistic people have real trouble relating to everyday events , people , surroundings ...
They certainly have the capacity to hurt , but also the capacity to perform acts of genius . It could be an interesting subject to consider.

Although I can sympathise with the revulsion towards peodophilia, there should be a little balance, there are many types of people with various disorders or screwed up heads, some more revolting than sex offenders. I believe that a skilful rendition of your character will convince the audience to look beyond the "cover" to the pages between, ie, the characters personality. If the audience cannot do this simple thing, what loss?
There are many things in films that disturb me more than a paedophile, be challenging!
Go with the gut, not public opinion.
